Inter-Intra Ummah
Spiritual care for the marginalized
About Inter-Intra Ummah
We just got started as Inter-Intra Ummah but we've been doing the work of helping system-impacted Muslims for over six years. We provide charitable and spiritual care to incarcerated Muslims who feel discriminated against by other 'inmates', unit staff, unit officers, or the administration within their current facility.
The name "Inter-Intra Ummah" ('Inter' meaning between and 'Intra' meaning within) describes the connectedness between and within ummahs (communities) of all aspects, specifically incarcerated and free-world. It may not sound like a big deal but providing digital support, depositing funds into an incarcerated individual's commissary, trust, or phone accounts, can make a major difference in their quality of life. With state and federal cut-backs, the incarcerated individual is subjected to substandard living without the necessary items needed to bathe or sometimes eat.
We also believe all people deserve spiritual care and the opportunity to contribute positively to their communities whether behind bars or the free-world. Charity doesn't have to start once a citizen returns home. They can begin their transformation right where they are so that when they are released back to their community, they can feel hopeful with a new outlook on life that many could not find before and during their incarceration.
